Nokia 7.1 with 5.84-inch ‘PureDisplay’ HDR panel, Snapdragon 636 SoC launched

Nokia 7.1 hands-on: A $350 success story

At today's event in London, HMD Global took the wraps off the Nokia 7.1, a premium-looking smartphone that offers somewhat compelling features such as HDR support.

While AndroidHeadlines has yet to spend any significant time with the Nokia 7.1 and the jury is hence still out on its battery life, the relevant specs in this department seem like nothing special and are one aspect wherein HMD obviously cut some corners in order to ensure it can still make a profit from such an affordable device.

Front and centre is the phone's 5.84in, 2,244 x 1,080 resolution IPS display, with a rather chunky bezel underneath and a narrow notch digging in to the top of the screen. Platforms like YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video support HDR content, offering you a more immersive viewing experience. This doesn't just mean that the 7.1 is capable of playing HDR10 content, but it also converts standard-definition videos to HDR10 in any video-playing app, and the results are quite noticeable.

China used tiny chips on U.S. computers to steal secrets
The company is American, but the motherboards were assembled mainly in China. National Security Agency spokeswoman said she had no immediate comment.

The first thing you'll notice is how compact the Nokia 7.1 feels.

The new Nokia 7.1 will be rolled out into the market starting from this month onwards with a global average price tag of European Union 319 (about RM 1522) for the 3GB/32GB variant. Oh, and there's a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C for charging and Bluetooth 5.0, too. The new Nokia 7.1 follows the same design language as the X.1-series smartphones like the Nokia 5.1 Plus, and Nokia 6.1 Plus. For selfies, there is an 8MP fixed focus camera with f/2.0 aperture. It's comprised of a 12-megapixel (f/1.8) sensor, and a 5-megapixel (f/2.4) sensor, complete with ZEISS optics and dual-LED flash. Portrait mode can also live-adjust Bokeh intensity - in back through the dual cameras, and up-front via AI algorithms. There is also a MicroSD card slot for further expanding up to 400GB.

Nokia has announced its new mid-range 7.1 phone, and I have to say that I'm impressed. Unfortunately, Nokia 7.1 still runs on Android Oreo 8.1 and not the latest Android 9.0 Pie.
