Trump Calls on Kavanaugh Accuser to Present Police Report

Judge Brett Kavanaugh US President Donald Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court at the White House July 9

Can the Senate Judiciary Committee enlist the FBI to investigate the claims of sexual assault brought by an accuser against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, nominee to the Supreme Court?

The high-stakes brinkmanship over whether Brett Kavanaugh's accuser would testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee came to a momentary standstill as GOP Chairman Chuck Grassley gave Christine Blasey Ford more time to decide on the terms of her appearance.

But according to USA media reports, Katz said in an email to the Senate Judiciary Committee that Ford still wishes to testify "provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety".

Trump tweeted that if Ford thought what happened to her years ago was "as bad as she says, " she should have alerted law enforcement. "I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place", Trump tweeted.

"You pull something out after 35, 36 years", Consentino said at the summit, echoing President Trump's tweet Friday morning asking why Ford didn't report the incident to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or other authorities at the time.

She said Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and groped her, putting his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream.

That claim runs contrary to the fact that most sexual assault victims do not report the incidents.

Senate candidates Cruz, O'Rourke square off in fractious debate
O'Rourke said he's concerned at the high numbers of black Americans who are killed by white police officers. O'Rourke is the only Democratic Senate candidate in these midterms who has vowed to vote to impeach Mr.

In her letter, Ford alleges Kavanaugh attacked her at a party in the 1980s while both were attending prestigious private high schools in Bethesda, Maryland.

And if they do not meet the deadline or if Ford does not want to testify, then they will hold the vote confirming Brett Kavanaugh Monday.

Trump and the White House had been careful not to malign Ford after her allegations surfaced, but Trump dropped the restraint in his tweets on Friday.

Minutes later the president stood behind his podium and exclaimed: "Look at our judges!"

"I was appalled by the president's tweet", Collins said in Portland.

The committee and the woman's lawyers have not yet agreed in negotiations over the terms of her appearance before the committee.

His approval by the Judiciary Committee and the Republican-majority Senateappeared to be an nearly certainty until The Washington Post published its interview with Ford, who is now a California psychology professor.

Hope said she is skeptical of Ford's story because she can't specify where and when the alleged assault took place. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., said she considered the Republican ultimatum of a Monday hearing to be "bullying".

During the 2016 campaign, at least 15 women accused Trump of misbehavior ranging from sexual harassment and sexual assault to lewd behavior around women.

Her lawyer, Debra Katz, rejected this and in a phone call to the panel on Thursday spelled out her client's conditions for testifying. It also specified that lawyers for the committee ― rather than the senators themselves ― would oversee questioning and that no outside witnesses would be called.

Katz reiterated that Ford, now a psychology professor in California, has received death threats and for safety reasons has relocated her family.

Kavanaugh had seemed to gain momentum among Republican senators this week, with growing numbers saying it was approaching time to vote and those who'd voiced concern about Ford's charges stopping short of expressing opposition to Kavanaugh.

If, as expected, the Republican majority votes to approve Kavanaugh's confirmation, it will pass to the full Senate, where a vote for cloture, setting up a final full-Senate vote, can be taken Wednesday morning.

White House officials remain confident Kavanaugh will be confirmed.

Anti-Kavanaugh Lawyer Claims Hearing Would Impede 'The Truth'
After the call, Taylor Foy, a Grassley spokesman, said the senator "will consult with his colleagues on the committee". She's faced death threats , according to her attorneys, and her family has been forced to move out of their home.
