Monsanto: 'The jury got it wrong' in cancer lawsuit

New study finds glyphosate in kids' cereals and snack bars

A new Environmental Working Group report suggesting that popular breakfast products like cereal granola and oatmeal contain what they call "unsafe" amounts of the Roundup chemical glyphosate got a lot of attention from parents.

Australia's peak farm advocacy group has condemned the ruling, in which a Californian jury found the glyphosate in Monsanto's Roundup weed killer contributed to a former school gardener developing terminal cancer at age 42, in 2014. According to studies conducted by the Environmental Working Group, a US-based public health organisation, 43 out of 45 oat-derived products sampled were found to have significant levels of the glyphosate, the active compound in all weedkillers.

Independent laboratory tests claim that glyphosate, which is also an active ingredient in Roundup, the Monsanto weed killer that is the most heavily used pesticide in the US, is present in many oat products.

A study published in May by a team at the National Cancer Institute found no evidence linking glyphosate with cancer.

Nvidia's new technology aims to give visual effects industry a boost
The company has announced that Quadro professional workstation graphics cards with Turing technology will be made available in Q4. The RT Cores can churn through ray-tracing performance at a staggering 25x faster than previous Pascal GPUs, Nvidia claims.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization, has said glyphosate is a "probable" human carcinogen.

"We will appeal this decision and continue to vigorously defend this product, which has a 40-year history of safe use and continues to be a vital, effective and safe tool for farmers and others", he said.

Kellogg also responded, saying, "Our food is safe.(EPA) sets strict standards for safe levels of these agricultural residues and the ingredients we purchase from suppliers for our foods fall under these limits".

This is against the prescribed safe levels of glyphosate spanning 0.1 to 310 parts per million on crops such as corn, soybeans, grains and some fruits, spanning. She said glyphosate - the world's most common herbicide - had an environmental benefit. (See those statements, as well as EWG's response, at the bottom of this article). "The agency's assessment found no other meaningful risks to human health when the product is used according to the pesticide label", the EPA says. "The EPA has researched this issue and has set rules that we follow".

Bin Laden raid commander to Trump: revoke my security clearance too
In a series of tweets, Trump also tweeted comments critical of Brennan, including that he "has gone off the deep end". Brennan is not facing any formal charges of violating any regulations or laws .

We expect better from General Mills and Quaker Oats, and we will continue to urge consumers to express their preference with their pocketbooks.

It is especially disappointing because these two multi-billion dollar companies can take the simple step of telling their oat farmers to stop using glyphosate as a harvest-time desiccant on their crops. Once the oats are transported to us, we put them through our rigorous process that thoroughly cleanses them (de-hulled, cleaned, roasted and flaked).

However, the levels that EWG considers to be high doesn't violate the legal limit set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

"I was shocked", said Dr. Jennifer Lowry, who heads the Council on Environmental Health for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

22 dead in Italy after motorway bridge collapses
The office of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said he was heading to Genoa in the evening and would remain there on Wednesday. So far, 16 people have been hospitalised, including 10 in critical condition, the agency said.

A new study has revealed that Quaker oats' and other breakfast cereals consumed by children in North American contain risky levels of glyphosate, a herbicide which has been described as a probable cause of cancer by the World Health Organisation.
