USA indicts 12 Russians on 2016 election meddling charges

Trump has furiously denied his campaign colluded in the alleged interference

USA intelligence agencies concluded in January 2017 that Russian Federation, in action ordered by Putin, used propaganda and hacking to meddle in the election to harm Clinton and eventually help Trump. Charges also include tampering with elections software, although it isn't clear whether the hackers influenced the electoral voting process.

Although a February indictment accused other Russians of spying and spreading propaganda on social media, it did not link those efforts with hacking, phishing attempts or distribution of hacked information to Republican operatives, a Republican congressional candidate and websites such as DCLeaks, which published the purloined material.

Around the same time, the indictment says, they targeted 76 email addresses at the Clinton campaign's domain.

The blame for election interference belongs to the criminals who committed election interference.

All 13 were brought to safety in a perilous rescue organised by Thai navy SEALs and an worldwide team of cave-diving experts. During the mission to save the boys, a former Thai Navy SEAL Saman Kunam died after volunteering to lend his expertise.

In an April 2017 interview with The Post, Stone said there was no proof that Guccifer 2.0 was Russia-linked, despite a USA intelligence assessment several months earlier that Russian intelligence had orchestrated the hacks. One of Unit 26165's officers, Senior Lieutenant Aleksey Lukashev, used various online fake personas to craft "spearphishing" e-mails to trick members of Mrs Hillary Clinton's campaign, including chairman John Podesta, into clicking on links that enabled the hackers to obtain the victims' login and password credentials. It referenced DCLeaks and Guccifer 2.0, so it's not as if their involvement has just become known. But he denied he was the person named in Friday's indictment "because I wasn't in regular contact with members of the Trump campaign", The Hill reported.

Stone's bottom line on WikiLeaks: "I never received anything, including allegedly hacked emails, from WikiLeaks or Julian Assange or the Russians or anyone else", he told ABC News, adding that he "never passed them on to Donald Trump or the Trump campaign or anyone else".

The indictment also does not allege that any vote tallies were altered by hacking. "The President is fully aware of today's actions by the department", the Deputy Attorney General said. "Free and fair elections are hard-fought and contentious and there will always be adversaries who work to exacerbate domestic differences and try to confuse, divide and conquer us".

And perhaps Mr. Mueller will see the light and end this seemingly endless investigation and let the Department of Justice get back to the business of the American people.

Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page to be interviewed by Congress this week
Darrell Issa made Strzok read out his own texts, including some with profane language and one that calls Trump a "disaster". Blake Farenthold, R-Texas, but he recently resigned after revelation of a taxpayer-funded sexual harassment settlement.

On Saturday, President Donald Trump sought to again discredit the Federal Bureau of Investigation nvestigation into Russian interference in the 2016 United States presidential election. If that link is established, it would shatter the Kremlin denials of the Russian state's involvement in the USA elections, given that the GRU is part of the state machine.

Hours before the Justice Department announcement, Trump complained anew that the special counsel's investigation is complicating his efforts to forge a better working relationship with Russian Federation. In the past, Trump has reiterated Putin's denials, but this week said he would bring up the issue when the two meet Monday in Finland.

Sam Nunberg, Stone's former protégé, said in an interview on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront" that he also thought the indictment was referring to Stone.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said yesterday the meeting is still on.

Moscow now accused of US election meddling, in indictment
That includes "a candidate for the US Congress", a "then-registered state lobbyist and online source of political news" and a reporter.

"We need to be prepared", he said. So while there were suspicions about Russian Federation, the precise motives behind the leaks were hard to divine. "Anything you do, it's always going to be, 'Oh, Russia, he loves Russia'".
