Trump delaying NAFTA deal until after midterm elections

Canada's Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said the country will not back down on retaliatory tariffs

Trudeau is celebrating Canada Day on the road highlighting the stand he has taken against the US government's decision to impose tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum products.

But the NAFTA talks have been stalled for several weeks and Lopez Obrador enters the scene as tensions between Canada and the United States have intensified as the two countries have become embroiled in a trade dispute.

Trump enraged Canada and other United States allies by declaring imported steel and aluminium a threat to America's national security.

Canada imposed tariffs valued at 10% on about $12.5 billion worth of USA exports on Sunday, in response to the US decision not to exempt it from steel and aluminum tariffs.

Ms Freeland said such tariffs would be "absurd" because the North American auto industry is highly integrated and parts made in Canada often go to cars manufactured in the U.S. and then sold back to Canadians.

It will be available globally in the 8 GB/128 GB configuration and priced at $579, identical to the other OnePlus 6 variants. In addition to the red option, OnePlus tells us that they'll re-stock their OnePlus Bullets Wireless on July 10 too .

The list of more than 250 USA goods subject to Canadian duties - including Florida juice, Wisconsin toilet paper and North Carolina gherkins - aim to pressure Trump supporters in key states in November's U.S. midterm elections.

It appears Trump, too, is not backing down.

The Ontario town is one of three stops the prime minister will make today as he crosses the country, and one of two stops created to reflect the looming trade war between Canada and the United States.

The future of the North American Free Trade Agreement negotiations was injected with a new dose of uncertainty with the election of a new president in Mexico on Sunday.

Not surprisingly, manager Gareth Southgate says his team have been working on penalties. He has been practising penalties and certainly there were no problems against Panama.

Early last month, Mexico imposed tariffs on US products ranging from steel to pork and bourbon, while the European Union levied duties of 25 percent on 2.8 billion euros of USA imports, including jeans and Harley-Davidson (HOG.N) motorcycles.

General Motors warned Friday that Trump's tariffs and the retaliation from other nations will hurt the company, forcing GM to cut jobs and putting it at a disadvantage against foreign competitors. You know why? They're going to build their cars in America.

"What's going to really happen is there's going to be no tax".

He said Trudeau wanted to be on the ground with steelworkers at a family event on the day Canada's counter-tariffs came into effect to "make it really tangible what this is about".

"I think a lot of people are willing to take him at his word - that what he's doing is going to be helpful for farmers and ranchers in rural communities", Purdue said.

Trump Defends Embattled Immigration Control Agency
Nineteen senior Ice officials recommended such a split in a letter on Friday to homeland security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. It's no exaggeration to say that in many immigrant communities, the name ICE now inspires nothing short of terror.
