Rescuers attempt to reach 'hundreds' stranded on Indonesia's Lombok: Disaster agency

An earthquake has struck the Indonesian island of Lombok

More than 1,000 homes were damaged by the natural disaster, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for the agency.

"We estimate the number will keep rising because we are not done collecting data", he said.

Among those killed in the quake was a 30-year-old Malaysian female tourist, Antara said. However, the disaster mitigation agency said many buildings had been damaged.

News portal Detik said two helicopters had been deployed to take the trekkers off the mountain and distribute food.

"My trekking guide who was accompanying two tourists from Spain suffered from minor injuries during the jolt".

The tremor also triggered a large landslide from Mount Rinjani.

Military officials said more than 250 people had reached a relief point on the mountain by Monday afternoon, and a team of rescuers had reached hundreds more near the crater lake.

He said the ground shook violently and people lay down until the tremors stopped.

The quake damaged dozens of single-storey houses and taller buildings and was felt in a wider area, including in Bali, where no damage or casualties were reported.

Probe into Flight MH370 mystery raises specter of 'third party' interference
The aircraft vanished on March 8, 2014, when it was on its way to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur with 239 people on board. But that search was called off after failing to locate the plane while scouring 125,000sq km of the Indian Ocean.

Tonnes of rock and mud were dislodged on the mountain in the 6.4-magnitude quake, which struck early Sunday and was followed by scores of aftershocks, leaving hikers with no easy way down to safety.

The island attracts tourists from around the world due to its beaches and hiking trails, and is located about 40km (25 miles) east of Bali.

Bali and Lombok airports are still operating, the spokesperson said. Authorities have issued a yellow alert, suggesting there is a chance of casualties.

"Thirteen people have died, hundreds of people were injured and thousands of homes were damaged in the natural disaster in East Lombok".

The latest quake was on land and did not trigger any waves or tsunami but authorities issued a yellow alert, suggesting there was a possibility of casualties. "Everything is back to normal now", receptionist Ni Nyoman Suwarningsih told AFP.

Woman in loveless marriage with 'patronising' husband denied divorce
Given that there are 106,000 divorces each year in England and Wales it might seem surprising that she could not get a divorce. Freedom to marry and divorce are both guaranteed by the law, but partners must uphold the "dignity of marriage", Li said.

Two trails were impassable following the quake, he said.

The quake hit early in the morning when many people were still sleeping.

Saudi Red Sea oil shipments halted after Houthi attack
Nearly 10 years ago, the oil market was shocked by the news that a Saudi oil tanker, Sirius Star, was hijacked by Somali pirates. Anything north of 4.0% could be bullish for prices because strong economic growth will mean greater demand for crude oil.
