President Trump planning emergency aid to farmers affected by tariffs

Trump Tapping $12B to Help Farmers Affected by Tariffs

China said it would retaliate, leaving even more US farm products at risk.

Farm groups have complained that moves by China and other countries in response to Trump's protectionist trade stance could cost them billions of dollars, spooking Republicans who fear a political and economic blowback to Trump's approach.

Earlier this month, 25 percent tariffs on $34 billion of Chinese imports of machinery and electronics went into effect, prompting Beijing to respond with tit-for-tat tariffs on American exports of soybeans and other products.

The shooter is also dead, the Globe and Mail reports, though it is unclear whether he was shot by police or died by suicide. They were all out tonight walking, having their dinner ... it's just unbelievable in this neighborhood", one witness said.

In a separate tweet he said that tariffs his administration has imposed are working to bring other countries to the negotiating table. This aid package can be authorized without congressional approval because it uses the Department of Agriculture's Commodity Credit Corporation, a Depression-era program authorized to borrow up to $30 billion in order to "stabilize, support, and protect farm income and prices".

The imposition of punishing tariffs on imported goods has been a favored tactic by Trump, but it has prompted US partners to retaliate, creating risks for the economy.

Canada, Mexico and the European Union also struck back at Trump's leveling of USA steel and aluminum tariffs by hitting U.S. exports of agriculture products and other heavily exported United States goods. Trump said on Friday that he would be willing to slap tariffs on every last import from China.

Where is the $12 billion coming from?

It involves direct payments to farmers, the purchase of excess food and trade promotion programs to help create new export markets.

"Either a country which has treated the USA unfairly on Trade negotiates a fair deal, or it gets hit with Tariffs". He added that, "Tariffs are taxes". "For decades, we've seen tariffs, we've seen barriers to selling product, and it needs to be fixed".

"This trade war is cutting the legs out from under farmers and White House's "plan" is to spend $12 billion on gold crutches", Sasse said in a statement Tuesday. "This administration's tariffs and bailouts aren't going to make America great again, they're just going to make it 1929 again".
