May presses Trump for post-Brexit trade deal with United States

BRITAIN-US-DIPLOMACY-TRUMP

As Britain braces for mass protests over the visit of Donald Trump, a west London pub has become an island of support for the divisive American president - even temporarily renaming itself The Trump Arms.

"I would have done it much differently".

A high fence has been erected around the USA ambassador's central London residence where Trump will spend Thursday night and the embassy has sent out an alert warning Americans in London to keep a low profile in case protests turn violent.

Trump, who has compared his own election to the June 2016 referendum in which a majority of British voters supported leaving the European Union, complained, "The deal she is striking is a much different deal than the one the people voted on".

Trump told the tabloid The Sun that May "didn't listen" to his views on how she should negotiate the UK's exit from the European Union, but said that was "fine". "I'm very strong on immigration".

Asked about Trump's comments at a hastily-arranged meeting with journalists, May said she was delivering the wishes of the British people. She wanted to go a different route.

In the interview, Trump said Johnson has "got what it takes and I think he has got the right attitude to be a great prime minister".

High-octane Wimbledon semis on the cards
In one of the most epic matches in Wimbledon history, John Isner's run at this year's tournament ended in disappointment. After watching Isner strike a tired forehand wide, Anderson advanced to the Wimbledon final at the 10th time of asking.

But her address to Mr Trump at the Oxfordshire stately home - the birthplace of Winston Churchill - followed a Brussels press conference where the United States leader highlighted Government divisions over Brexit.

"It's an opportunity to reach a free trade agreement that creates jobs and growth here in the UK and right across the United States".

No deal with the USA can be signed until after next March 29, when the U.K.is to formally leave the EU.

Trump flew into Britain on Thursday, having already subjected North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies to a roasting over their levels of defence spending. He's a very people person.

The agenda for Trump and May on Friday includes discussion on relations with Russian Federation, ahead of a summit in Finland on Monday between Trump and President Vladimir Putin.

The biggest protest march began in front of BBC's New Broadcasting House off Regent Street at 2pm today and ends with a rally in Trafalgar Square at 5pm. Moscow denies the charge, and Trump has given no indication that he intends to raise the issue with Putin.

Trump's Marine One departure from the ambassador's residence was met by jeers from demonstrators banging pots and pans, and another pack of protesters lined roads near the palace.

And previous year Trump was critisied across the political spectrum for deriding London's mayor's response to an Islamist attack.

The President and his wife will travel to Windsor on Friday afternoon to meet the Queen, before flying to Scotland to spend the weekend at Trump's Turnberry golf resort which will be private.

The request for the orange-hued blimp to fly was approved by London Mayor Sadiq Khan - who has had a testy Twitter relationship with Trump - after more than 10,000 people signed a petition.

Trump angered May and many Britons by tweeting inflammatory and unverified videos made by Britain First, an anti-Muslim group whose leaders have been convicted of hate crimes, and by characterizing parts of London and other cities as no-go areas because of a purported Muslim-related crime wave.

Stoltenberg says Thursday that "the clear message from President Trump is having an impact".

However, media coverage may well be dominated by footage of the "Trump baby" balloon as it soars above the iconic Houses of Parliament for a two-hour spell.

"Time and again, the common threads that hold us together - our shared history, our shared values, our shared language and culture - conspire to inspire mutual respect, and to make the United States and the United Kingdom not just the closest of allies, but the dearest of friends", May said at the dinner, according to excerpts from her speech released before the event.

Surveillance video of the crash, apparently taken by a fixed security video, was obtained by the newspaper Corriere della Sera . George plays US Air Force commander Scheisskopf in the World War Two Channel 4 drama, based on Joseph Heller's classic novel.

The watering hole is expecting up to 300 people who will have paid £32 (RM170.30) to attend Saturday's Trump-themed bash, when it will serve up American favourites such as burgers and hot dogs.
