Trump confirms U.S. officials in N.Korea over summit planning

General Kim Yong-chol, the right-hand man of North Korea's leader, will told high-level talks as preparations for a historic June 12 nuclear summit in Singapore between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un gather pace.
The U.S. officials are led by Sung Kim, the U.S. ambassador to Manila, who formerly was the U.S. ambassador to Seoul and a top negotiator with North Korea in past nuclear talks.
"If Kim Yong-chol and Mike Pompeo settleD on a basic draft of their agreement and President Trump accepts it, then that will lead to a confirmation that the summit will take place for sure".
Kim Yong Chol, who is about 72, is a contentious figure outside North Korea.

A State Department spokeswoman confirmed that delegations from the USA and North Korea were still in talks to possibly go ahead with the June 12 meeting, which had been canceled by Trump on Thursday citing "open hostility" from Kim. He will be the highest-level North Korean official to travel to the United States since 2000, when late National Defence Commission First Vice Chairman Jo Myong Rok visited Washington, South Korea's Unification Ministry said.

The White House said a "pre-advance" team was travelling to Singapore to meet North Koreans.
U.S. officials have talked about a comprehensive one-shot deal in which North Korea eliminates its nukes first and receives rewards later.
