Trump Calls on Mexico to Stop Immigrant Caravan From Entering

"Mexico has the absolute power not to let these large "Caravans" of people enter their country", Trump said in a Twitter posting on Monday. Trump has declared protections for so-called Dreamer migrants "dead"; accused Democrats of allowing "open borders, drugs and crime"; and warned Mexico to halt the passage of "caravans" of immigrants or risk U.S. abandonment of the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta).

The department also said that unlike in previous yearly caravans, "this time Mexican immigration authorities have offered refugee status" to participants who qualify.

Mexican authorities responded to Trump's Sunday threat to rebuke NAFTA by pledging to disband the caravan and allow some transmitters to apply for asylum in Mexico.

The caravan, estimated to contain more than 1,000 migrants, is part of an annual caravan that is meant to raise awareness of the struggles that immigrants making the journey from Mexico to the US face, the Post reported.
