Sylvester Stallone weighs in over pardon for the Galveston Giant

President Trump Saturday said that he is considering a "full pardon" for boxing's first black heavyweight champion, Jack Johnson, after being urged to do so by "Rocky" actor Sylvester Stallone.

"His trials and tribulations were unbelievable, his own life contentious", he even also tweeted.

More than a century later, Johnson's relatives asked former President Barack Obama to pardon the champion, but the Justice Department declined, noting on its website that the general policy was not to accept applications for posthumous pardons for people convicted of federal crimes.

In 1913, Johnson was convicted of taking his white girlfriend across state lines. After serving out his year-long sentence, he boxed for a couple years, but a auto accident ended his life in 1946.

Advocates for Johnson have long pushed for a posthumous pardon, including USA officials like Sen. He then mowed down a series of "great white hopes", culminating in 1910 with the undefeated former champion, James J. Jeffries.

Seen by many at the time as the "Great White Hope," Jeffries threw in the towel in round 15 of 45 as Johnson toyed with him in front of 15,000 boxing fans in Reno, Nevada. But his biggest prize came on December 26, 1908, when he defeated Tommy Burns for the World Heavyweight Championship near Sydney, Australia. Stallone joins the likes of Arizona Senator John McCain and former Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid, who have previously sought a pardon for Johnson. President Donald Trump said he would consider a "full pardon" for the first black heavyweight boxing champion.

Dragiev knows the Warriors have won the first two games of the series by 36 combined points while covering lofty spreads in each. Golden State also has 11 straight home-playoff victories, the longest home-winning streak in franchise postseason history.

It took less than two hours for an all-white jury to convict the boxing legend, derailing his career and ruining his reputation.

Jack Johnson died 72 years ago, but in his day, he was the toughest fighter in the world. He skipped bail and fled to Europe, but served nearly a year behind bars when he returned to the U.S.in 1920.

Posthumous pardons are rare, but not unprecedented. "That's wrong." Haywood, alongside other Johnson's relatives, is asking Trump to grant him a pardon.

If he's pardoned by the president, it'll be the first time it's ever been done to someone who's already dead.
