IPL 2018 Top 5 Contenders for the Orange Caps

England all-rounder Ben Stokes was the most expensive buy in the IPL player auction at Rs 12.5 crore while Steve Smith - the Australia skipper who led Rising Pune Supergiants past year - and Ajinkya Rahane have demonstrated their leadership skills on the big stage.

Zubin Bharucha, Royals' head of cricket, cited the management preferred Smith over India's Ajinkya Rahane since "he is someone who leads the team by example".

"We will play the Royals brand of cricket, that is, with spirit and aggression, with which we are known to play with".

"It is great to be back at (Rajasthan) Royals".

Well to let you know, Rajasthan Royals' fans will just have to wait until Saturday night to find out who will be the captain of the team in IPL 11.

Smith, on his part, said he is looking forward to work with his legendary countryman Shane Warne. I am looking forward to exciting cricket and a successful campaign.

"It's an honour and privilege to be leading (the) Royals and I'm looking forward to working with the King (Shane Warne)", Smith said. In fact, it was at Rajasthan Royals where he first stepped into the shoes of a leader and later took over as Australia captain as he flourished in the role.

However, Smith has led the Rising Pune Supergiant previous year to the final of the IPL 10.

While Smith will lead the side, it also has seasoned stars like Ajinkya Rahane and Ben Stokes.

In what was a successful season for him, Smith had amassed 472 runs in 15 matches in the last IPL season. He was only 25 when he got was made captain, due to the unavailability of the injured Michael Clarke and Australia's performance under him and his own unfettered stacking up of runs despite the added responsibility, he was viewed as the natural successor to Clarke.

Rajasthan will play their first fixture of the 2018 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on April 9.
