Justin Trudeau backtracks on 'peoplekind' comment, calls it a 'dumb joke'

Justin Trudeau urges Canada and EU to lead world economy

A woman speaking with Trudeau about religious charities in Alberta last Thursday used the word "mankind".

The prime minister then raised his hand and said: "We like to say 'peoplekind, ' not necessarily 'mankind, ' because it's more inclusive".

Mr Trudeau said he wouldn't be "making any more jokes" following the comment he made at a Q&A session at the MacEwan University in Edmonton.

The Toronto Sun's editorial page and many social media called the prime minister's behavior "mansplaining" and political correctness run amok.

Trumped: US president wants a parade like Macron
Trump has said he was impressed by the military parade he watched in Paris on July 14. Trump's call for a military parade might be hitting a few snags.

While Mr. Trudeau's comment was well-received at the town hall, it was criticized elsewhere.

On Wednesday, Trudeau said that the joke "played well in context" of the setting - but not out of context.

"Out of context it doesn't play so well, and it's a little reminder that I shouldn't be making jokes even when I think they're amusing".

Others, like American comedian Jim Norton, mocked Trudeau's comments by using humour: "Anyone angry at Justin Trudeau today needs to person up".

Sarah Sanders: 'I Don't Really Care What Sen. Flake Has to Say'
Trump's wife, Melania, accompanied him to OH aboard Air Force One but peeled off to visit Cincinnati's children's hospital. Trump took a toddler in her arms briefly before moving to tables where children were making crafts and playing games.

A seemingly off-the-cuff remark by Justin Trudeau morphed into a scornful segment on one of U.S. President Donald Trump's favourite TV shows Tuesday just as the prime minister heads to the U.S.in hopes of selling Canada's virtues stateside.

Another user posted: "What a joke".

Fox and Friends was among the mainstream media outlets that seized the exchange, which has been ridiculed globally on the right side of the political spectrum.

After Chicago, he's scheduled to stop in San Francisco, where he's set to meet with local business leaders and entrepreneurs, and Los Angeles, where he'll speak at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.

State of emergency in Maldives to 'probe coup' as judges arrested
The decree gives the government sweeping powers to make arrests, search and seize property, and restricts freedom of assembly. Abdullah Riyaz, a former Commissioner of Police said, "People of Maldives are demanding the President to step down".

He begins in Chicago, where he's pitching the benefits of progressive trade in a region that's seen deals like NAFTA take away stable and solid Midwest jobs.
