In accordance with an agreement with Bangladesh, Myanmar has already built two refugee processing facilities and a transit camp where returning Rohingya must stay for several days before they can be transferred to their previous places of residence, he said.

The UN refugee agency has also been excluded from a Rohingya refugee repatriation process organised by Bangladesh and Myanmar. A group named Human Rights Watch has said that the villages "should be treated as crime scenes" and preserved.

The global human rights organization said at least 55 villages have been leveled and stripped of all their buildings, plant life and distinguishing features since last November.

Bayern thrashes 10-man Besiktas
Bayern Munich caretaker coach, Jupp Heynckes says his men will face Besiktas with caution in the second leg. With a rested roster, Bayern will attempt to end Besiktas' Champions League run in the first leg.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in a statement earlier this week that the settlement of Rohingya Muslims on the island would be a "temporary arrangement" to reduce the dense population at the refugee camps in the Bangladeshi border city of Cox's Bazar, where almost 700,000 members of the ethnic minority group now live in deteriorating humanitarian conditions.

Aerial photographs of levelled villages in northern Rakhine State were first made public February 9 when the European Union's ambassador to Myanmar, Kristian Schmidt, posted images taken from an aircraft of what he described as a "vast bulldozed area" south of the town of Maungdaw.

Almost 700,000 Rohingyas have fled violence in Rakhine state since last August and took shelter in Bangladesh.

Human Rights Watch says the Myanmar authorities' actions were aimed at covering up evidence of atrocities against Rohingya Muslims. However, no refugees have returned to Burma, and Rohingya continue to flee from Rakhine State.

The government has previously claimed that areas were cleared to construct improved roads and houses. Those unable or unwilling to return to their homes have the right to choose compensation from the government for their loss of homes and property. The demolition has raised deep concern among human rights advocates as according to them the government is destroying evidence before any credible investigation takes place. Myanmar bars independent media access to Rakhine state.

More than 750,000 refugees, mostly children and women, have fled Myanmar since August 25, 2017, when Myanmar forces launched a crackdown on the minority Muslim community, according to Amnesty International. They are viewed by the local authorities as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, although many have been living in the region for decades, if not centuries. The HRW has also said that these settlements should be preserved as "crime scenes". In a report, United Nations investigators said such violations may have constituted crimes against humanity. "Of course we have been using machines like earth removers and bulldozers because we have to clear the ground first before building new houses", he said.

Over 100 parliamentarians have signed a letter urging the government to back a UN Security Council referral of the head of the Myanmar army General Min Aung Hlaing for crimes committed against the Rohingya people.
