Supreme Court to hear Rajasthan, MP govts' appeals against Padmaavat release

States Worrying About Padmavat Release

Padmaavat's release and its certification were delayed and stalled due to repeated protests and threats of violence by Rajput groups led by the Rajput Karni Sena. A bench headed by Chief justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud approved to hear the plea on Tuesday.

The urgent petitions, which the Supreme Court will hear today, were lodged a day after Hindu extremists set fire to buses and blocked roads in Gujarat.

The movie stars Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh, the husband of Padmavati, and Ranveer Singh as Khilji who leads an invasion to try to capture the queen.

However, Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of their future state, which Israel captured and annexed in 1967. The decision led to widespread protests in which 30 Palestinians were killed by Israeli security forces, Efe news reported.

The apex court yesterday stayed the orders and notifications issued by the Rajasthan and Gujarat governments prohibiting the screening of the controversial movie, clearing the decks for its nationwide release on January 25.

Meanwhile, the movie's producer Viacom 18 Motion Pictures is considering postponing the movie's release in Rajasthan because the protests in the state may turn violent, the Economic Times reported.

Singh had approached the Supreme Court to fix his jail term in cases of life sentences. However, it is also necessary that this court may also take note of the situation in the state where "Rani Padmavati", is treated as a warrior who committed "Jauhar" with several other women to protect her/their honour, and after her sacrifice, the Rajput men died fighting on the battlefield.

He explained: "I mean, I do respect this vote, I do regret this vote, and I would love to welcome you again". Macron said: "I mean, it's on your own".

The states have asked the court instead to rule that individual state governments be allowed to block the release on law-and-order grounds.

The tussle on the release of Padmaavat still not resolving. There were so many films earlier, but nobody really bothered.

Maintaining that States were under a constitutional obligation to maintain law and order, the apex court said this duty also extended to providing police protection to the exhibition of the film, persons involved with it and the audience. The court had also restrained other states from issuing any notification or order banning the screening of the movie.
